Lisha’s Kill Reformed Church

Outreach

For many years Lisha’s Kill Reformed Church has supported both local and global outreach. With our focus upon “Connecting, Community and Caring,” compassionate outreach will continue to be an important part of our ministry.

The LKRC Outreach Committee consistently looks for new and relevant ways to connect with our community, both to invite people to faith and involvement in our church, and to reach out to those in need with a caring and helpful hand and heart.

Each Sunday morning, we broadcast our worship service on ‘Facebook Live’ to virtual attendees. Early the following week, both CD and DVD recordings are distributed to anyone that requests either the audio or video record of the latest service. Appreciative comments arrive at the LKRC Facebook page from near and far, both during the broadcast, and subsequently, from those who viewed the Facebook-archive at a later time.

Global Outreach

Missionaries: LKRC helps to supports several “Partners in Missions” who are involved in mission work all over the world: Taiwan, Ethiopia, Hungary, Oman, Kenya and Costa Rica to name a few. Our Women’s group provides additional support for these missionaries through special gifts at Christmas and other times during the year. To learn more about RCA ministries throughout the world, visit the Reformed Church in America at www.rca.org.

Disaster Relief: Through special offerings LKRC periodically responds to the needs presented by natural disasters all over the world. Recent donations have been made to The Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, and to RCA Disaster Relief.

Local Outreach

Capital City Rescue Mission, Schenectady City Mission, and Schenectady Community Ministries Food Pantry: these local missions are examples of some of the ministries LKRC supports with monetary and time donations.

Family Promise: This is the nation’s leading organization dedicated to helping low income families achieve lasting independence. LKRC provides temporary shelter and meals for families, as well as long term shelter in our parsonage. Family Promise of the Capital Region uses our church 4 times per year for a week each time. We host 2-3 families Sunday to Sunday staying overnight, including dinner and breakfast. They return to the Day Center for training and assistance to improve their career skills. Many families have progressed to finding jobs and some now have their own businesses. Volunteers are asked to spend 2 hours to serve dinner, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm, and some to stay overnight from 8:30 pm - 8:00 am. There are a total of 100 volunteer hours donated during that week, including cooking meals, setting up beds, taking down beds, washing sheets, blankets, cleaning the rooms, etc. One family is currently living in our parsonage while we are searching for a new pastor.

The LKRC mini Food Pantry: This is located on the east-facing (parking-lot) side of the church building, and provides both food and personal products 24/7 to anyone who needs them.

Community Meal: The NEAT Dinner (Not Eating Alone Tonight) is hosted monthly by LKRC volunteers. There is no fixed charge for this meal. It is financially supported by a free-will offering.

Guiding Eyes for the Blind: LKRC provides a venue for puppy raisers who pre-train candidate Seeing Eye dogs (socialization, basic commands) every Monday evening from 5:00 - 7:00.

Bottles and Cans: Folks from our congregation donate nickel-deposit bottles and cans that are then delivered to a supported organization - currently the Animal Protection Foundation in Glenville NY.

AA: District-wide annual picnic each summer. They use the LKRC pavilion and grounds for fun activities. There are more than 30 people who attend, with their families.
